Software: Norton Antivirus EndPoint
Problem: Can't install new version because other Norton Product is still on the system.  Yeah, eventhough you uninstalled it properly.
Resolution: You have to use a new Norton Removal Tool to uninstall any left over parts of previous installations of Norton, reboot, and then install EndPoint.

Software: Windows XP virus activity
Problem:
Unhide all system and hidden files in Windows Explorer and then search the root of each drive for C:\RESYCLED  If you find this directory on your hard drive or hard drive partitions, then you have the Trojan.Vundo on your system.
Resolution: Removal can be simple.  Try using the VundoFix, reboot your PC, and see if it is fixed.  Delete C:\RESYCLED manually.

Software: Google Search HiJacked (Google redirect virus) Trojan.SearchHijack
Problem:
When using IE and Google to search the web, Google displays the right search results but the actual link leads to a strange ad page. This does not happen when using other search engines like Yahoo and Altavista.
Resolution: Ok, so this is actually caused by a trojan virus called Trojan.SearchHiJack. The removal is somewhat simple because there is only one infected file: C:\Windows\System32\WDMAUD.SYS  Remove this file and all will be well again.  Alternatively, I would suggest using this Trojan Remover program.  Well, just in case you got some other stuff on your computer.

Software: Windows XP virus activity
Problem:
Windows XP displays an icon in the taskbar with a yellow tooltip saying "Critical Systems Errors", System Detected Virus Activities, click here for more information.
Resolution: This is actually caused by the SmithFraud virus.  The removal is simple - use the SmitFraudFix, reboot your PC, and all will be fixed.

Problem: Norton Antivirus detected Trojan-Spy.Win32.Delf.ta
Resolution: go to Start->Run->REGEDIT and locate HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Windows->Current Version->Policies->Explorer->Run->UpdateManager and delete any reference to LicenceManager.exe.  Now go to Windows Explorer and locate C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Translat\LicenceManager.exe\PE Patch\UPX\UPX and delete everything in the directory.

Software: Norton Antivirus
Problem: Error: LU1803: "LiveUpdate failed while getting your updates"
Resolution: Open Windows Explorer, make all folders visible, and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate, and delete all files in that folder. Next go to the Control Panel, 2x click on Symantec Liveupdate icon and select "Interactive Mode". Now run LiveUpdate as usual.

Now navigate to the following line in the registry: HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\User Shell Folders\ , double click on Common Programs in the right pane and change whatever the string is to %ALLUSERPROFILE%. When finished it should look like this: %ALLUSERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs. Uninstall Norton and install it again.

Problem: Cannot access LiveUpdate, Online Scanner, or www.symantec.com website following a virus infection. The situation persists even after virus detection and removal.
Resolution: Use the SEARCH tool in Windows to locate a file called HOSTS. Once you locate it, usually under c:\windows\system32\drvivers\etc\ , right click on the HOSTS file and edit the HOSTS file with Notepad or Wordpad, deleting all entries NOT starting with #.

Resolution: go to -> all 'users\application data\symantec\liveupdate\download' and delete all files in the "download" section, then re-run Liveupdate

Software: Norton Antivirus
Problem: "liveupdate settings are corrupt"
Resolution: search for SETTINGS.LIVEUPDATE file and delete all files found. Norton recreates the file each time it runs live update.
