February 14, 2011 - Reflecting
"How do you describe the saddness of missing the person you loved all your life? I can't find the words to describe how I feel. I only know that I wish I had more time. I get sad when I am in nature and I see the beauty of the trees, the blue sky, the sun, and I know my father will never see that again. No one can understand how this event changed me, but I know that I am not the same person I was. I laugh at people like Wallace Mah who try to control the world they live in, oblivious to what matters in life. Life is not about the job title you have and your pay grade, it's not about the car you drive, but rather about relationships your form with your own family and the kind of friends you have, because in the end, the only people standing next to your bed are those who truly love you..."

May 16, 2012 - Happy Birthday Dad!
"How do you not miss someone so great? Our dad was amazing in every way. He loved us and knew us like no one else. Never a selfish moment in his life. He was the most giving man I knew. This year he would have been 70 years old. I hope there is GOD and I hope I get to see dad again. HAPPY BIRTHDAY."

Dear Martin,

I spoke today with Gabriella at the Mane Event here in Chilliwack and she told me of your Father's passing. Ever since I meet him years ago at a craft show, he has been a true friend and inspiration. My wife and I will miss him and his jokes, always a joy to be around. She is at a show in Medicine Hat, AB. right now and will let all of his friends there know of his passing. On behalf of myself, my wife and all his friends at the craft shows, please let the family know he will truly be missed.

With deep sadness,

Dear Martin and the Sladek Family,

It was with a feeling of profound sadness that I read of the passing of your father Vaclav. I knew that he had been battling illness quite some time and I can only pray that his last moments were painless and peaceful. Vaclav was a man of tremendous talent in the art of marionette making. It was always a pleasure working with him. It was such a genuine delight opening up a package from him to see his wonderful creations. They were always so colorful and detailed. Yet these marionettes which he so carefully crafted will give many years of joy to children and adults for a long time to come. His passing is a great loss. My prayers and condolences go out to you and your family. I will remember Vaclav in my prayers. May his memory be eternal!

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Dennis Listermann-Vierling

Martin,
I was so sorry to hear about Vaclav's passing. I began working for the SCC in 1996 and from the beginning Vaclav was one of the members who always had encouraging suggestions for me as I learned the ropes at our craft markets. His wonderful laugh was a special addition to every show we worked together and his ability to draw visitors in or chase them down the aisle made him unique. His puppets were so full of life and when in has hands they really did bring joy to everyone. Please pass on my condolences to Louise and the rest of the family.
